Adding A Patio Cover To Your Home: 3 Things To Consider

While many homeowners have often thought about installing a patio cover in the front or back yards, many remain apprehensive for a number of reasons. For those homeowners still considering doing so, it's important to consider three things before making any decision on whether or not to proceed with the project.

The next time you visit a friend or family member at their home, take notice of where people gather not on the inside but the outside of the home. In many instances people gather near or under umbrellas, gazebos, or some sort of awning. This is especially true during the spring, summer, and early autumn as temperatures and the sun can become quite uncomfortable. Even in the evenings people tend to gather in these areas outside as it offers shelter/cover from insects, wind and rain. It is also important to pay close attention to those homes which have patio covers installed in them. Patio covers function largely as an area that both attracts people and enhances their enjoyment. Such an area in a front or back yard can be used as not only a gathering place but a place for dining, cooking, and even opening birthday present during a party. A patio cover essentially expands the living space of a home. Having one installed allows portions of a yard or even an entire yard to be utilized in times and ways it could not otherwise.

Visiting homes with patio covers will also reveal that both the home and any outdoor furnishings under them are being well protected. Patio covers offer protection from direct sun and the many different types of precipitation. Weather can easily damage and ruin exposed doors, windows, and of course outdoor furniture. Moreover as most patio covers are installed below a deck or balcony, any furniture placed directly underneath those areas becomes susceptible to leaks and falling debris. In homes like this it's not uncommon to find a full shade patio covers installed. In addition to protecting furniture and the actual home, homeowners who use their patio as a cooking or gathering place will need to protect both for dining furniture and their grills and/or barbecue pits. Outdoor kitchens have become extremely popular but require protection from the elements. A patio cover is an affordable way to protect these things.

Homeowners who still remain on the fence about whether or not to install a patio cover should consider the added value that one would give to their home. Homeowners with existing patio covers can also add tremendous monetary value to their home by replacing an old patio cover with a new one. All of the aforementioned reasons as well as the costs associated with the purchase and installation of a patio cover allows homeowners to sell their homes at a greater value than those homes who lack patio covers. Essentially patio covers not only add living space to a home but they make a home look and feel complete as well.

Keeping these three items/tips in mind should help homeowners make a more educated and sound decision with regards to the installation of a patio cover. The costs associated with such a project are much lower than most homeowners realize and there are many different types of materials available for patio covers. These different materials all carry different costs and so there is an affordable patio installation for homeowners operating on all different size budgets.

The Benefits Of A Vinyl Patio Cover

Adding a patio cover to one's backyard brings with it a number of benefits. This is especially true of those patio covers made of vinyl. In addition to getting the benefits that a patio cover brings regardless of the material it's made from, vinyl patio covers bring a whole lot more to the table. While wood patio covers require a great deal of maintenance in order to keep them from rotting, aging and of course termites, a homeowner will need to spend plenty of money and time working on them. Vinyl patio covers on the other hand are a virtually maintenance free item that can both protect and liven up a back or front yard patio.

Some homeowners continue to select wood patio covers only because of the unfair stigma that vinyl patio covers seem to be stuck with. In truth, vinyl patio covers , especially those in the mid-to high price ranges, look and in some cases feel just like wood making them virtually indistinguishable from one another. Moreover where appearance is concerned vinyl fences do not split, crack, warp and they retain their original appearance many years after they are installed. The bottom line is that the human eye cannot tell a new vinyl patio cover from a wooden one. Move forward just a couple of years however and the difference will be noticeable immediately.

While all types of patio covers offer a wide variety of styles, the durability and flexibility of those made of vinyl means that there are even more styles to choose from when homeowners select vinyl for their next patio cover. Vinyl patio covers are available in both lattice in full shade styles and can also be fitted with raceways for electrical wiring, allowing lights to be installed on these patio covers.

When it comes to durability no other type of patio cover offers homeowners the benefits that vinyl does. Many homeowners are surprised when they learn that vinyl patio covers meet all city building codes and that they can withstand wind speeds of up to 100 miles an hour or more. Moreover almost all vinyl patio covers come with lifetime warranties that guard against fading, chipping, peeling, and of course discolorization. Even better, vinyl patio covers are so durable and resistant to rot that they need only mild cleaning with the occasional soap and water.

In years past it's not hard to see or imagine why vinyl products were often avoided by homeowners. In years and decades past vinyl products for homes looked like plastic and were far less durable than they are now. Thanks to new technologies however vinyl products including patio covers are now virtually indistinguishable from there wood and even aluminum brethren. This means that homeowners can be confident in their purchase of vinyl patio covers and any other type of vinyl product for the home.

Installing Vinyl Siding While Adding Value to Your Property

Normally vinyl siding is installed by professionals, but if you are familiar with construction projects, then there is no reason you can’t install the siding yourself. However you’ll want it to look like professionals did the job; especially if you plan on it adding to the value of your property.

There are important steps to follow, and when you buy a vinyl siding set, instructions should be included. For once, read the instructions carefully before you start to make sure you have all the necessary tools. If the set doesn’t have all the necessary items needed for installation, prepare you own. Things like nails, hammers, etc. etc.

The instructions usually suggest that you wait until the weather is calm without rains or winds expected in the next few days. If they predict stormy weather, wait, you won’t be sorry.

First of all you need to remove the current siding on your home. The insulation comes next before you install the vinyl siding frames, and make sure they are firmly in place before proceeding.

When the installation and the vinyl siding frames are secure, start installing the vinyl sheets and make sure they provide the proper cover. Remember vinyl siding breathes with the changes in weather. They contract and expand so you need to allow slight movement as you fasten them in place. Keep the panels tight enough to prevent noises and gaps.

If your home is large and more than one story, you may need help in the installation, and choose someone who can help, not hinder your project. Rather than starting the installation without all of the knowledge necessary to make it look professional, you may decide to hire the job out.

If you still want to do the job yourself, then find a professional and ask him to allow you to help without pay. That would be better than trying to do the entire job yourself when you don’t know the ins and outs of the job. What you’ll end up with is a house that doesn’t keep the weather out, but allows noises and gaps into the inner construction. Be cautious and remember if noises can get in, small animals will find those gaps too.

When installed properly vinyl siding brings beauty to your home. Not to mention that it will never need painting again. Vinyl siding adds value and curb appeal not only for your own family, but to that buyer down the road.

Easy Cleaning Methods For Your Outdoor Area

As you get ready for spring and summer it may be an easy job to take your patio furniture out of storage, hose them off and place them on your patio, ready to use. For many however, it won’t be that easy and everything related to your patio will need a thorough cleaning before you even consider using them. Your patio floor may need it as well, so you might as well get busy because they won’t clean themselves.

Start with your patio and if it’s concrete a good strong hose may do the trick, but you should first take a push broom to remove leaves and other stuff that found its home on your patio. Don’t forget the walls and even the top that may have accumulated spider webs, etc. etc. etc.

You may need a bucket of soap and hot water to remove stubborn stains on a cement patio. Power washers save you a great deal of time, but be sure to follow their directions. If your patio is wood, it may need a fresh coat of waterproofing sealer, but clean it first. Check your wood patios to make sure no nails protrude.

If you have awnings, spray them off regularly while they are in the open position. A strong garden hose should keep this job easy as long as you don’t let the dirt and grime remain on them indefinitely. Allow them to air dry.

Once the patio is clean, start on the patio furniture. Clean thoroughly with a mild soap and warm water. Normally they treat outside furniture when manufactured and if you use detergents and hot water they may strip the protective coatings. Depending on the surface of your tables, clean them as well.

Spray outdoor cushions with the hose and they may need to be scrubbed with a sponge and/or brush. When wet, store them on end so they will dry easily.

Your barbecue is another matter, it should be cleaned after every use, especially the grill so it will be ready to use next time you need it.

It will be much easier to clean your patio and furniture if you clean them on a regular schedule. If you live where the weather remains harsh all winter, either store everything away in a storage shed or garage. At the very least cover those with canvas to protect them from wind, rain, snow and sunrays and you won’t be sorry when spring arrives.

Let The Professionals Help

If you're a homeowner who is considering revamping your front or back yard this spring or summer you'll undoubtedly need the assistance of professionals. While many homeowners prefer to do things themselves, professionals can offer insights and experience that laypersons simply do not possess.

Such is the case with professionals who install things like fences, gates, decks, and patio covers. While a homeowner might have a good idea of what he/she wants to see in their yard, a professional who assembles, sells, and installs these things will have a far greater understanding of the process which in turn allows them to help homeowners realize their goal.

Fences, gates, and the like are not difficult to install, especially when dealing with those made of vinyl, however a professional can ensure a homeowner gets exactly what they need by taking into consideration things like budget, yard size, neighborhood, and even environment.

Should you have any questions about vinyl products for your home or need help with a project please contact us and let our knowledgeable and courteous staff assist you.

Vinyl Fencing For Privacy & Maintenance Free

As you inspect the types of fencing, don’t overlook vinyl fencing. You’ve probably noticed that they’ve been popping up all over, from back yard six-foot fences, picket fences across the front yard or garden, or even ranch style fencing, and all the way in between. Some consider the fact that they come in one or two colors as a disadvantage, but when you figure you’ll never have to paint it, white or tan is beautiful.

Sure they might get dirty now and then, but what doesn’t? A good rainstorm can rinse it off completely, but if that doesn’t do the trick, a bucket full of hot water, soap, and a sponge will bring it back to its original beauty. Usually though all it takes is to rinse it off with a strong burst of water from the hose.

Another disadvantage to the vinyl fence is the cost. It costs more than a wood fence, but when you figure in how often you have to paint that wood fence you might change your mind. Another drawback of wood fences is that termites like them and the wind tears into them and leaves them struggling to survive. Many wood fences don’t last more than a year or two without major repairs.

Vinyl fences don’t rot, their color never fades and when you compare them with metal fences that corrode over time, there’s simply no comparison. When you choose vinyl fencing, you can avoid many of the disadvantages of other fencing products.

The absolute favorite of vinyl fencing besides their beauty is the privacy factor. When you want privacy in your back yard the only other option you would have is a block wall, and vinyl fencing is cheaper than block. Mainly because you’re not only paying for the materials, but it takes a knowledgeable person to install it, and they aren’t cheap.

You still haven’t decided? Then you might consider contacting a professional fence contractor. They will tell you the best choice for your area and style for your home. As you compare the vinyl fence with other materials you will find they are easily maintained, strong and flexible. They will not rot, splinter, fade and can withstand severe weather, not to mention privacy factors. You just can’t go wrong with vinyl fencing.

By having a vinyl fence installed, it will last for years, and will have an added curb appeal when it comes time to sell your property.

Fence Your Pool

Drowning is a preventable death, and it is the second cause of death for young children under the age of five. Anyone who has a pool that is accessible to children needs to take a few simple precautions and a fence is almost the first in line.
The fence needs to be at least 4 feet high and about 2 inches from the ground. Vertical slats should be less than 4 inches apart so children can’t climb over, under or squeeze between them. There should be no hand or footholds on the outside where a child could climb over the fence. Install a lock on the inside of the gate about 3 inches from the top so little fingers can’t reach them, and the gate needs to swing out from the pool. Many small children watch their parents and learn how to get into the pool.

The homeowner should install some type of warning signals when children open a door or someone goes into the pool area. They shouldn’t rely on only one barrier and the more barriers available to prevent a child from entering the pool area unassisted would be well worth the effort. Sometimes a locked door is all that’s needed, but they’re all worth the cost to save a life.

When homeowners don’t want permanent barriers, they need to install removable pool barriers when grandchildren, family members, or friends come to visit.  Like we said before, drowning is a preventable death, and it is also a silent one. Most deaths happen in family pools when the parents or caregivers are home and the child sneaks silently out into the pool area, possibly just to retrieve a ball. There are also power safety covers with the controls far out of their reach.

If a neighboring child enters a back yard and falls into the pool, remember the homeowner is at fault for not keeping the area safe. Even when the locks are in place and a child climbs over the fence. They shouldn’t rely on only one barrier.

When you’re in doubt about the pool area in your yard contact the Consumer Products Safety Commission, the Building Officials and Code Administrators (BOCA) National Building Code, they have standards that are easy to follow and would take only a few minutes of your time to investigate.

When you’ve taken care of all of the safety measures, there is one thing that will always help the child. Teach them to swim and how to get out of the pool and that is first in the line of safety features.

Winter And Wood

Spring is a time of year when many people begin to take notice of the landscaping around homes, more specifically the front and back yards of homes. The warm weather facilitates thoughts of gathering in those locations and entertaining guests as well.

What many people also spot during the springtime and while their attention is drawn to such things, are fences, gates, siding, and even the occasional gazebo found in and around homes. All these items when made of wood suffer greatly at the hands of nature especially when forced to endure fluctuating temperatures, rain, freezing, direct sunlight, and even wind. Such items can easily warp, crack, peel, and chip away after just one winter.

Homeowners who have purchased vinyl products however and use them for the aforementioned items will find that their homes and those items are in far superior condition than those homes which utilize wood in the same things. Vinyl products for the home save money, headache, last far longer, and require a miniscule amount of maintenance in comparison to the same products made of wood.

If you've noticed your homes wood and outdoor decor has suffered as a result of the recent winter, or any other for that matter, be sure to contact us for more information regarding vinyl products for the home!

Orange County Gazebos: Enclosures for Your Hot Tub

Are you planning on installing a hot tub in your back yard? Do a little planning and when you enclose your hot tub, you’ll find that you have a new room addition to your home. Without that enclosure, you won’t use the hot tub as much because the entire neighborhood will watch.

Research gazebos and you’ll find many types and styles. Those with cement or stone patios surrounding the hot tub will give you many hours of enjoyment. You may want to enclose the hot tub with glass windows, and planters to make it more friendly. A few chairs and table added and the area becomes usable for the entire family. With a roof overhead you won’t care if it rains or snows for the entire area escapes the weather.

With a barbecue a short distance away from the gazebo, dinner is at hand. A hot tub hidden within a secure gazebo, a lover’s retreat becomes available.

Whatever your choice, a hot tub without an enclosure, becomes an expensive, glorified bathtub. When you add that customized feature whether a pre-built gazebo or one you design and build yourself, think of the pride you’ll feel as your guests enjoy the fruit of your labor.

You’ll also want to plan what type of utility you want to heat the hot tub. Gas or electricity is the norm. If you choose gas, you’ll also want electricity to power the jets and a licensed electrician can easily achieve that goal. What about lights? You’ll want subdued lighting and lights lining the path that leads up to the gazebo will show your thoughtfulness on those dark nights. You’ll need brighter lights when you bring out games on that table.

Don’t limit your time in the gazebo surrounding your hot tub. Supervised birthday parties for young guests where they can enjoy cupcakes, ice cream, and games. Consider adding a television for the super bowl or other sport games for your guests to enjoy. The uses for your enclosed hot tub are enumerable with easy clean up that keeps the mess outside.

When you want to find a contractor to do the work, be sure to check their referrals. Don’t just hire someone off the street when their top concern is getting paid. There are many reputable companies that can help you design your enclosures for hot tubs. In fact many have the knowledge to do the entire job, the hot tub and the enclosure from start to finish.

Orange County Gates: Driveway Gates

In today’s modern world where they no longer keep cattle or other animals in place by fencing and gates; the driveway gate secures your home against unwanted guests. Friends and family, in some instances, enter by a code on a control pad.

The driveway gate gives children an added place to play while keeping them in the fenced yard, and offers protection for children and household pets against passing cars or others looking to do them harm.

The most efficient driveway gate will be one with a remote control either from the home or at the gate itself. They operate similar to the garage door with the remote when the owner’s car enters the area. To operate other gates by hand a person swings the gate open when entering or leaving the area. The advantage to the hand-operated driveway gates give needed exercise to many. An installed padlock further enhances security.

The owner has the advantage of choosing the materials that best suit their needs. Either for security, privacy or elegance, the proper material needs to blend with the remaining landscape and fencing. When pricing is the main objective, cheaper wood gates would offer the same advantages without the high costs of wrought iron or metal fencing.

The rustic or grand driveway gate will add security to the front door of the home. Those who enter and want to leave in a hurry, think burglar, will no longer have that option. The gate is a deterrent, and when the burglar can easily get over the fence, if he wants to carry his loot away from the home, he’ll have to lift it over the fence or the gate. He can’t simply walk or drive away.

Will you be installing your own driveway gate? If not consider hiring a contractor who specializes in fencing and gate installations. Search around and get several bids from reliable contractors. When you find the contractor that deals in the product you need, be sure to compare prices with quality. A good quality fence will of course cost more, and the heavy lock that secures the fence will be worth its weight.

Remote control gates should be self-locking. You should not have to have a separate lock for the gate. Choose the style and material that would look the best on your property, and after you’ve signed the contract, pay a down payment and don’t pay in full until the work is completed.

Vinyl Products In Harsh Climates

Homeowners who live in climates where the weather quickly takes its toll on the exteriors of their homes and things like yard decorations and backyard furniture often delay or completely forget about home improvement projects simply because they don't want to waste money on something that extreme heat, wind, or rain is going to destroy.

The  good news is that many of the things utilized in decorating the exterior of a home and for creating privacy are now available in vinyl. This includes but is not limited to vinyl fences, vinyl gates, vinyl siding, vinyl decks, and even vinyl patio covers. Fortunately vinyl products offer homeowners in harsh climates a long-term solution to this problem as vinyl products stand up to harsh weather much better than there wood brethren.

Should you live in an area with a harsh climate and want a new fence, patio cover, or deck be sure to contact us and we'll be happy to help you select one that works best for your home and the climate it resides in.

Cheap Vinyl: Buyer Beware!

As with all things you get what you pay for. More often than not low-quality imported products are purchased by consumers who are either ignorant about the quality of the product or by those who aren't overly concerned with quality and want a cheap affordable solution.

The same is true for vinyl materials. Not all vinyl materials are created equal and some are downright atrocious. Many cheap vinyl products for the home lack UV inhibitors as well as other ingredients that are designed to withstand the damaging effects of not only the sun but moisture and wind as well. Without these ingredients in them, vinyl products often fail those who purchase them.

If you're the type of homeowner who's considering installing a vinyl gate, vinyl fence, or even vinyl siding on or around their home, buyer beware! There are a great many different types of vinyl products available and just as many different types of quality. Be sure when shopping for vinyl products to ask lots of questions and/or consult with a professional who works with or manufactures vinyl products to get the lowdown on the product you're interested in.

Should you have any questions about the quality of vinyl you've been looking at please be sure to contact us as we'd be more than happy to assist you.

Los Angeles Vinyl Fences

Whenever you invest in a fence whether wood, block, chain link, or wrought iron you might consider Los Angeles vinyl fencing. Vinyl fences have grown in popularity and there are good reasons why. Considering the pricing, chain link is probably the cheapest, however it offers no privacy. Block and wrought iron will be more expensive, and vinyl fencing falls somewhere in between.

If the wood fencing seems practical, throughout its life it will need many repairs and often need painting. New wood fencing is beautiful, but within a year the sun and water will bleach it out and the wood grain will not last.  Within two years, it will need another paint job. Wind will take its toll as well.

Like we said before, vinyl fencing has grown in popularity and now you see it in every neighborhood. The attraction is obvious because it will never need to be painted, and rarely if ever will it need repairing. It is beautiful to look at and will improve your property curb’s appeal in every setting.

If you want your back yard to be serviceable and private, you’ll find that Los Angeles vinyl fences will suit your needs. A vinyl picket fence around a garden or across your front yard will bring your property up to a standard few in your neighborhood can achieve. It will look beautiful as it surrounds your property marking off your property.

Today there are many varieties of Los Angeles vinyl fences and there will surely be one that will bring your fencing needs, and once installed, the only thing you will have to maintain it is to spray it off if it becomes soiled.

Easy to care for, beautiful to look at, never have to paint it and you may be able to find a variety that will look very similar to wood, and only the installer will know. Another advantage insects, like termites won’t like it and neither will other small animals that can chew through wood.

So if you’re still in doubt, call Los Angeles vinyl fences and they will be able to inform you of all the pros and cons of the vinyl fence. You’ll be happy you called and you’ll be one of many who have checked out this versatile durable material before you settle on the other traditional products. You’ll be especially happy when you watch your neighbor paint and repair their wood fence.
