Vinyl Fences: They Make Perfect Sense

Traditionally wood has always been the material of choice when a homeowner wants to build or install a fence around their home. While metal fences have also enjoyed a high level of popularity among homeowners who want or need a fence, the material has never been as popular as wood do to some limitations and the heavy weight associated with it. Wood fences, and to a lesser extent metal fences offer homeowners a myriad of choices when it comes to design, color, and durability.

In more recent times fences made of vinyl have become so popular that they rival fences made of wood and metal. This is because vinyl fences are not subject to many of the downfalls and maintenance requirements that wood and metal fences are. In years past vinyl fences all looked cheap and didn't offer much in the way of variety and design though that has changed dramatically as of late.Compared to today's models the vinyl fences of yesteryear look pretty shabby and subpar. So good is the technology surrounding vinyl fences now that these types of fences have become virtually indistinguishable from fences made of wood. Moreover vinyl fences are impervious to moisture and heat and will therefore never peel, crack, warp, or begin to rot as a result of exposure to these things.

While temperature swings, even infrequent ones, can cause wood fences to expand and contract, vinyl fences are immune to these types of extreme weather changes. The vinyl fence that a homeowner purchases, providing they care for it properly, will look the same years after its purchase as it did the day it was purchased and installed. Moreover the maintenance just mentioned is very light and homeowners need only to hose off their vinyl fence whenever it begins to look dirty or has debris caught in it.

What it essentially boils down to for a homeowner who needs a fence is cost and maintenance. Does a homeowner want a fence that requires constant work and maintenance in order to not only keep it clean but save it from damage or does a homeowner want a fence that looks like wood that they can admire without having to clean it regularly or replace due to decay? With vinyl fences looking just like wood fences the choice should be a simple one for most homeowners especially given the fact that vinyl fences are also more affordable than fences made of wood.

Vinyl Gazebos: A Worth And Cost Effective Investment

When a homeowner invests in something for their home they'll make every effort possible to ensure that they're getting the best bang for the buck. This is especially true when the investment is something that will provide a homeowner and his/her family with entertainment or enjoyment around the home. The issue of quality versus price however is one that often sees unnecessary homeowner compromise.

What many homeowners or unaware of is that a great deal of the items they utilize in and around their home for entertainment are available in materials other than wood and metal. In recent years vinyl products for homes have become extremely popular due not only to the low cost associated with them but also in part to their tremendous durability and longevity. Moreover vinyl products are resistant and in some cases immune to the issues that their wood and metal cousins are prone to.

Homeowners interested in gazebos are, generally speaking, willing and ready to spend a considerable sum of money on their investment. However many homeowners remain apprehensive about purchasing a new gazebo only because they are aware of how much maintenance a wood gazebo requires. Gazebos made of even the finest quality wood can fall prey to moisture and heat which results in its peeling, cracking, warping, splintering, and rotting. Homeowners are often asked to pay a considerable sum of money for new gazebo which causes them to flounder and put on hold any potential gazebo purchase that might be looming.

Gazebos made of vinyl however offer homeowners a gazebo that looks just like wood but one that isn't subject to all of the aforementioned problems. Furthermore the initial cost of a vinyl gazebo, even an elaborate one, is far less than one made of wood. In addition to low cost and durability homeowners have also become attracted to vinyl gazebos because they allow homeowners to choose from a greater variety of styles, colors, and textures. Moreover the maintenance free nature of vinyl gazebos helps make them far more attractive than gazebos made of wood and even metal.

Perhaps best of all with regards to vinyl gazebos is that many, even those considered to be upscale, are available in vinyl gazebo kits which essentially allow a homeowner to purchase their gazebo and set it up themselves with relative ease. Gazebos made of vinyl are considerably less massive than those made of wood and therefore weigh far less than those gazebos made of wood and metal. Purchasing such a kit allows a homeowner to eliminate costly installation fees as well as lengthy installation times.

Siding Materials to Compare

When you want to add siding materials to your home, where do you go first? A siding contractor should be able to answer all of your questions regarding all of the materials available. Whether vinyl, metal, wood, or stucco they are all sound and many have problems with upkeep and durability.

Stucco is the most efficient siding product. The biggest expense is in the installation. Wire mesh is installed over slats that have been nailed to the home, and the concrete materials are added last. You will want someone with the experience that is necessary to install the stucco correctly. Stucco can be painted and many presume that the color should be added to the stucco rather than being painted afterward.

Metal or Aluminum siding is cheaper to install because in many instances it can be installed directly over the existing siding. The tools needed are a hammer and tin snips. Metal siding outperforms the remaining siding and is very efficient especially in cold climates or near the ocean because it resists the corrosive salty air. It also has extra insulation ability, and can be painted.

Vinyl siding follows closely behind aluminum siding. You never have to paint it because it retains its color. Over time it may crack or it may be damaged in a hail storm, but the damages can be repaired or replaced.

Wood siding comes in last in the list of sidings as far as durability and maintenance. It needs repainting and/or treated regularly in order to keep water damage, dry rot or insects out of it. Termites love wood and can destroy a home within a few years. If not cared for routinely it may split and bow and will allow the elements to enter.

No matter the material you choose, you’ll want someone with experience to install it. One of the best ways to find a qualified local contractor is to ask for free bids in writing. Don’t just settle for one, but ask around and many may not be qualified in all siding materials. Settle on one who has references and is able to answer all of your questions like which siding is best for your area.

The siding material you choose will be on your home for a long time so pick and choose wisely. Drive through your own neighborhood and check out the houses and what kind of siding they have and which you prefer. You won’t be sorry that you did your own homework.

What A Fence Can Do For You

While it would be advantageous if they did, not all homes are built with fences around them. This is a true shame however as fences of all types can provide homeowners with not only a solid boundary marker for their property but a number of security and privacy advantages as well.

Families who live in a home with a fence that encompasses their property can rest easy knowing their children have a safe place in which to play and can feel more comfortable in their home knowing that onlookers from the outside cannot see into their home.

Depending on the type of fence that is installed, homeowners may discourage not only onlookers from the outside but more unscrupulous individuals as well. Strong and sturdy fences that are built high can seriously discourage burglars as well as keep pets in a yard.

If you're a homeowner who currently has no fence but is considering having one installed be sure to contact us so that we may help you get started on the right foot.

Vinyl Decks: Less Hassle, Less Costly

Sitting outside on your deck with guests, friends, and family can be relaxing, rewarding, and refreshing. The majority of people think of decks as a gathering place in their backyard and as such don't usually give much thought to their upkeep or the long-term costs associated with it.

Those homeowners with decks made of wood will tell you that after the first year passes, their decks tend to lose their luster and some even begin to crack, warp, and see the paint peel from the wood. Once the spring and summer roll around however it can be extremely inconvenient to install a new deck or to have an existing one repaired. This inconvenience comes from both the homeowners desire to continue enjoying your deck without interruption and the high costs associated with deck repair.

This is why it's a good idea to at the very least consider a deck made of vinyl when the need for deck repair, upgrade, or new installation arise. Vinyl does not suffer from the same problems or the same type of decay that wood does which means homeowners won't have to worry about spending large sums of money to have it repaired after years of use nor will they miss a spring or summer due to repairs and upgrades.

Should you have any questions about vinyl decks this be sure to contact us so that we may assist you.

Vinyl Patio Covers: More Affordable And Easier To Install

Protecting your patio has never been easier nor has it ever been more affordable! Vinyl patio covers are both affordable and easy to install unlike their wood and metal cousins. While wood and metal patio covers almost always require the assistance of a professional when it comes to their installation, vinyl patio covers do not.

This is because vinyl patio covers are much less massive than those made of wood and metal and therefore can be installed with a little effort and help from a friend or two. Vinyl patio covers also offer homeowners greater variety than do patio covers made of wood and metal. Variety comes by way of color, texture, design, and cost.

With spring just eight or nine weeks away now's the time to begin thinking about preparing your patio and your backyard in general for the spring and summer. A vinyl patio cover costs less, is more durable, and easier to install than those made of wood and/or metal. Should you have any questions about vinyl patio covers please be sure to contact us so that we may assist you.

Installing A Vinyl Gate Yourself

If you've already got a vinyl fence set up around your home or yard, you need only to set up a vinyl gate to complete the look of your property and completely close it off from trespassers as well as other unwanted nonhuman guests. While many homeowners will hire a professional to install their new vinyl gate it's actually a straightforward process that requires a homeowner to spend only a small amount of time planning things out.

The first thing a homeowner will want to do when they opt to install a vinyl gate themselves is to measure the distance between the two fence posts where they intend to install their new gate. Once they have obtained the proper measurements they will want to purchase a vinyl gate that is one and a quarter inche less wide than the distance measured between the individual posts.

Once the measuring and purchasing processes are complete homeowner will need to hold their new gate between the two posts where the gate will be installed so that it's even with the vertical railings. They then must adjust the bottom edge of their new gate so that it is even with the bottom of their fence. Additionally they must position the gate between both posts while leaving a 5/8 inch gap on at one side.

Making their new gate level is the next step for a homeowner who is installing their own vinyl gate. In order to level the gate a homeowner will need help from a partner and have them hold the gate in place. The gate should be aligned so that each of its hinges are aligned directly over the top and bottom back rails of their gate. The longer narrower side of their gate hinge should be positioned over the railings while the shorter side should be against the fence posts.

With everything aligned a homeowner should then mark positions on their gate where they intend to drill holes. Drilling holes in a new vinyl gate without marking drilling positions first almost always result in mistakes and a gate that features unnecessary and out of place holes in it.

When a homeowner is ready to drill holes into their new vinyl gate they'll want to first lay it on a flat surface with its back railings pointing towards the sky. Lying the gate flat allows for more accurate drilling and fewer mistakes. A homeowner can then drill through their vinyl gate into the wood inside of the fence posts to create holes which will be needed to attach hinges and the gate latches later.

Lastly a homeowner will need to attach the hinges on their new vinyl gate to the appropriate fence posts and utilize wood screws for the task. First up is attaching the gate latch to the opposite fence post. The new gate should be held to the opening of the fence and aligned with the other half of each hinge with the holes in the back rails. Hinges can then be attached to the gate with screws through each drilled hole and finally a gates latches on the other side.

Prepare Your Patio For Spring

Now that the holidays are officially over many homeowners turn their attention toward the spring season. While spring is still officially a few months away it has a tendency to creep up on unprepared homeowners, especially those who like to entertain guests once the weather has warmed up.

If you're this type of homeowner then you will undoubtedly begin thinking of ways to spruce up or improve your patio for the upcoming spring season and for the entertainment of guests. One way to really make a patio/backyard more comfortable and usable for entertaining guests is to add or upgrade an existing patio cover.

Having a good patio cover installed in a backyard not only ensures that guests will have a shady place to relax but it will also provide them with an area in which they can escape falling leaves, wind, debris, and in some cases rain. Patio covers made of wood and metal, while performing well for the first couple of years of their life, tend to degrade quickly and will offer fewer and fewer advantages to homeowners and their guests as the years roll on.

If you're considering putting in a new patio cover for the upcoming spring season or should you be considering upgrading to a vinyl patio cover please be sure to contact us so that we may help get you started and set you on the right path.

Vinyl Fences Aren't The Only Vinyl Products Available For Your Home

We speak often of vinyl fences and just about any subject you can imagine that relates to them. In this post however we want to talk a little bit about other vinyl products for your home. While vinyl fences remain very popular among homeowners who want a fence that requires little to no maintenance, there are other vinyl products for the home that offer the same benefits that vinyl fences do.

The first among these are patio covers. Vinyl patio covers are popular for the same reason vinyl fences are popular. These patio covers are low maintenance and homeowners can pick up a well constructed patio cover made of vinyl for a relatively low cost. Furthermore installation is a cinch and these patio covers last for years and even decades.

Gates made of vinyl are quickly rising in popularity among homeowners who are are all familiar with vinyl products as well as those who are just being introduced to them. Vinyl gates like fences made of the same material offer homeowners a sturdy product at a fair price and a plethora of different designs and brands to choose from.

Railings around a deck, patio, or balcony not only act as markers for the beginning and ending of an area but are often thought of as safety mechanisms as well. Vinyl railings are just as strong in security as their wood and metal counterparts but require almost no maintenance. Homeowners who purchase vinyl railings can rest easy knowing that people on their decks and balconies will not only know where those areas end but will be safe from hazards well.

Vinyl decks are available for homeowners who spent countless dollars and hours caring for a wood deck that continuously peels, cracks, warps and splinters. If you're such a person and simply want a  deck that you can enjoy without having to reapply finishing and reparative chemicals to it than a vinyl deck is for you.

Should you have any questions about any of vinyl products for your home please be sure to contact us so that we may provide you with the information you seek.

Is Vinyl Right For Your Home?

While vinyl products work in nearly every scenario, there are situations and homes which aren't really conducive to vinyl products. Knowing whether or not vinyl products will work for your home is really a matter of consulting with a professional who deals with things like vinyl fences, gates, and decks.

Most professionals can make a pretty good assessment over the phone but there are some that will even come to your home to determine whether or not vinyl will work for it. The rule of thumb for homeowners however should be to speak with a professional unless they are 100% certain that vinyl is right for their home.

Homes in which vinyl products might not work are homes that are owned by individuals with plenty of disposable income. In such scenarios a homeowner will have no problem purchasing the chemicals necessary to keep their wood and metal fences from  degrading nor will they have any financial issues with hiring people to take care of the maintenance for them. A second scenario in which metal and wood products might work better for a home is one where a homeowner seeks to greatly increase the value of their home. While a vinyl fence and other vinyl products can tremendously boost the value of a home, traditional wood and metal fences are sometimes valued more by buyers.

If you're uncertain of whether or not vinyl fencing or any other vinyl product is right for your home please don't hesitate to contact us as will be happy to help.

Low Quality Vinyl Fences: Buyer Beware

So you've been sold on the idea of purchasing a vinyl fence as opposed to a new wooden or metal fence. A vinyl fence can indeed be enticing for reasons related to both budget and design but homeowners must be wary of the many subpar vinyl fences on the market.

While nearly every company that manufactures and sells vinyl fences sells their products as being aesthetically comparable to wood, there are many brands and types of vinyl fences that are not up to snuff in terms of their design and construction. This is especially true of vinyl fences that are marketed as having the ability to be indistinguishable from a wood fence.

Vinyl fences constructed of lower quality plastics may, from great distances, look like wood but anyone who gets within a few yards of one will quickly recognize that the fence isn't made of wood but rather low-grade plastic. These types of fences don't even come close to looking like a middle-of-the-road vinyl fences either and instead look like nothing more than cheap plastic.

If you are currently searching for a vinyl fence for your home and are unsure of the different grades of quality please be sure to contact us that we may be of assistance.

Vinyl Fencing: The Non Toxic Solution

When individuals consider installing fencing in and around their home there is a lot to consider. Everything from cost, durability, and aesthetics crosses the minds of every person prior to the purchase of a fence. What many people don't think about however is safety which is equally important, if not more so, than all the aforementioned reasons.

While wood and metal fencing might look fantastic not only are they not as durable as vinyl fencing but they can be toxic to both children and animals as well. This is because wood and metal fences are often treated with hazardous chemicals in order to help preserve them and help them withstand things like heat, water, and wind. Who hasn't heard of children or pets who play near and sometimes ingest parts of a fence?

Vinyl fences on the other hand don't require any additional preservatives or chemicals as they are naturally resistant to weather and other natural elements. Should you have any questions about vinyl fences please be sure to contact us so that we may assist you.

Vinyl Fencing Is Extremly Flexible

We've often talked about the numerous advantages that vinyl fencing has over fencing made of wood and metal. Today we're going to continue with that train of thought and talk about another advantage vinyl has over woods and metal when it comes to fencing.

Not only is vinyl fencing resistant to heat and moisture but because it's essentially high grade plastic, it's vastly more flexible than wood and certainly more so than metal fencing. This means homeowners who live in areas where high winds blow constantly need not worry about their fencing being warped or misshapen by high-powered gusts. The same can be said of homeowners who live in areas where brutal storms are often the norm. Vinyl fencing is extremely sturdy and flexible and will withstand the types of weather and environments that wood and metal fencing will not.

Should you have any questions about the flexibility of vinyl fencing or should you wish to purchase one please be sure to contact us that we may be of assistance!

Types of Fences for Your Yard

As you look at the variety of fencing products, you’ll be amazed at the differences between them. Some offer total privacy and security, while others offer neither of those qualities.

The picket fence is cute, not especially beautiful, but it serves its purpose when enclosing the front yard or simply around a garden area. Dogs may be able to jump over them and children climb over them, while smaller animals may climb between the slats. The picket fence is made from either wood or vinyl. Wood will need paint, and if you’ve never painted a picket fence, it is a real pain in the neck. They are usually less than four feet high so offer no security to or from anyone.

The second fence we look is a slat fence, and is made of wood or vinyl, and it offers the same beauty and security as the picket fence. In other words, animals and children will simply crawl under it or jump over it. You may see the slat fence around horse corrals, and they are rarely over five feet in height, and for some reason horses don’t jump over them.

The wooden lattice fence again has no security although some view it as pretty. It is often installed over wood or block walls to give an added benefit of security and privacy. Rarely if ever will you see a lattice fence as the entire fence. It is rather flimsy and needs other material to be strong.

The chain link fence is seen often where high winds blow. Beauty is never connected to the chain link fence, but durability is. The average height is about four or five feet, and can be jumped by any agile person or animal. Often the chain link stands as a barrier at businesses where you might spot rolls of barb wire that has been installed on top of the chain link. This discourages people from dropping in unannounced and unwanted. Those chain link fences are normally between five and eight feet high.

Many people install their own fencing, and it is relatively easy, but there is a lot of hard work involved. Plus you will have to purchase the material. If you don’t like to sweat, then you might consider hiring a fencing company to purchase and install your fences around your yard. They know what type lasts longer, and will be able to help you choose the type best suitable for your area.
